  • Protest to repeal the AFSP act which grant even paramilitary forces special power and refused food & water for more than 500 weeks. Called as “ the worlds longest hunger strike”.
  • On International Women's day she was voted the top woman icon of India by MSN Poll.

3. Phoolan Devi-The Bandit Queen
  • The original gangster of Indian dacoit scene. Who revolutionised the largely male dominated world.
  • 1n 1996 she stood for elevemth Lok Sabha election for samajwadi party for Mirzapur area in Uttarpradesh and won the election & served as MP.

4. Kiran Bedi
  • First woman to join the Indian Police Service. & also the highest-ranking woman official in the nation's history.

  • Won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1994 for humanitarian work in improving the condition of prisoners in Tihar jail.

5. Savitri Mai Phule
  • First woman teacher of India, for first girl students of India. • Pioneer of modern Marathi poetry.
  • First woman to light her husband's pyre in the Indian history.
  • Relentlessly worked for different social causes relating to women, education and domestic abuse.

6. Ahilyabai Holkar- Warrior Queen of Indore
  • Ruled the Malwa Kingdom in the 18th century. Clearing lndore of bandits and other outlaws, Holkar changed the face of lndore for the better.
  • Fittingly came to be known as the warrior queen of Indore for her hands-on approach to battle.
  • Widely known for her justice particularly an incident where she ordered the execution of her only son because of his punishable activities.

7. Neerja Bhanot
  • Born in a typical Indian Middle class family, married when she was 21 years old but was estranged from her husband due to dowry issue. • Went off to be a flight attendant with Pan Am, went to Miami and made it to be a Purser.
  • On September 5 1986, a flight had made a stop at Karachi Airport and was hijacked. Neerja single handedly helped several passengers disembark. She died while heroically protecting three children.
  • Posthumously. became the youngest recipient of India's highest peacetime award for bravery. the Ashok Chakra.

  • First Indian woman to fly an aircraft.
  • She earned the pilot license at the age of 21 in 1936.
  • When Thakral first flew an aircraft, she was not only married but also had a four year old daughter.

  • Rape survivor
  • An Indian social activist and chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala.
  • Gang-raped by eight men when she was 15.
  • Refused to be broken and gave birth to an institution that assists trafficked women and girls in finding shelter - Prajwala.

12. Shanti Tigga

  • First woman jawan of Indian Army
  • Tigge was a mother of two when she became a jawan in the Indian Army.
  • During their physical tests. she defeated all her other male counterparts. She completed the 50 m run in 12 seconds during her tests.
  • The firing instructors were so impressed with her skills in handling guns. that she earned the highest position of marksman.
  • Awarded the title of best trainee.
